AlAA 96-2089 Numerical Solution of Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations Using a Fractional-Step Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
A fractional step method for the solution of steady and unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is outlined. The method is based on a finitevolume formulation and uses the pressure in the cell center and the mass fluxes across the faces of each cell as dependent variables. Implicit treatment of convective and viscous terms in the momentum equations enables the numerical stability restrictions to be relaxed. The linearization error in the implicit solution of momentum equations is reduced by using three subiterations in order to achieve second order temporal accuracy for time-accurate calculations. In spatial discretizations of the momentum equations, a high-order (3rd and 5'h) flux-difference splitting for the convective terms and a second-order central difference for the viscous terms are used. The resulting algebraic equations are solved with a linerelaxation scheme which allows the use of large time step. A four color ZEBRA scheme is employed after the linerelaxation procedure in the soiucion of the Foisson equation for pressure. Tiis procedure is applied to a Couette flow problem u s ing a distorted computational grid to show that the method minimizes grid effects. Additional benchmark cases include the unsteady laminar flow over a circular cylinder for Reynolds Numbers of 200, and a 3-D, steady, turbulent wingtip vortex wake propagation study. The solution algorithm does a very good job in resolving the vortex core when 5'h-order u p wind differencing and a modified production term in the Baldwin-Barth oneequation turbulence model are used with adequate grid resolution. * Research Scientist, Senior Member AIAA ** Branch Cheif, Associate Fellow AIAA Copyright 01996 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc. متن کاملAlgebraic Fractional-Step Schemes for Time-Dependent Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations
The numerical investigation of a recent family of algebraic fractional-step methods (the so called Yosida methods) for the solution of the incompressible time-dependent Navier–Stokes equations is presented. A comparison with the Karniadakis–Israeli–Orszag method Karniadakis et al. (1991, J. Comput. Phys. 97, 414–443) is carried out. The high accuracy in time of these schemes well combines with ...
متن کاملSimulation of Gravity Wave Propagation in Free Surface Flows by an Incompressible SPH Algorithm
This paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate wave propagation in a free surface flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in a Lagrangian framework using a three-step fractional method. In the first step, a temporary velocity field is provided according to the relevant body forces. This velocity field is renewed in the second step to include t...
متن کاملA Characteristic-based Split Finite Volume Algorithm for the Solution of Incompressible Flow Problems
The characteristic-based split (CBS) method has been widely used in the finite element community to facilitate the numerical modeling of the Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper a CBS-based finite volume algorithm is introduced for the solution of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The proposed method is implemented on a co-located grid arrangement and employs a transient fractional step...
متن کاملError Analysis of a Fractional Time-stepping Technique for Incompressible Flows with Variable
In this paper we analyze the convergence properties of a new fractional time-stepping technique for the solution of the variable density incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The main feature of this method is that, contrary to other existing algorithms, the pressure is determined by just solving one Poisson equation per time step. First-order error estimates are proved, and stability of a fo...
